Tour de France 2014

Tour de France, ultimate cycle tour going through the French Alps

We are getting really excited about the start of le Tour in just over a weeks time and will be heading to Yorkshire to be part of the Festival of Cycling celebrations taking place there. As part of the weekend of events we have been asked to lead some of the led rides that will take groups of riders around part of the Tour route on both the Saturday and Sunday and can't wait to meet up with our cycling buddies from around the UK. With the weather having been so lovely recently we've had plenty of opportunity to put the miles in and get ready for what promises to be an amazing weekend. The hills of Yorkshire are as savage as those in Devon and we're glad the sun has been shining so we've had no excuses not to get out and ride so that we're ready for them.

Last weekend was the Dartmoor Classic and thousand of riders baked under the sun as they rode the 100 or 65 mile route. As a supporter of british cycling's Breeze movement, dedicated to encouraging women to take up cycling, it was fantastic to see the large numbers of them taking part, in either the debutante or classic routes. There were lots of Breeze t-shirts in evidence and it made me feel proud to be one of the Breeze ride leader team. The classic was a great apetiser for the Cyling Festival - so bring on le Tour Yorkshire!

After the Grand Depart weekend is over we are heading back down to the French Alps to follow the riders as they reach the mountains. We going to encamp on the top of the col d'Izoard and ride the mountain before the pro's get there. If you would like  to join us we can assure you of a warm welcome, cold beer and a chance to keep an eye on the TV as the peloton approaches from our Journey Begins motorhome - it would be great to see you there!  The photo is of Chris Froome on Mont Ventoux in last year's tour - we can't wait to see him defend his title this year.
