L'etape du Tour 2016
L’Etape du Tour So, you’re on the brink or have already signed up to the infamous and legendary cycle event L’Etape du Tour 2016 and no doubt are both thrilled and scared of what lies in store! Perhaps you’re a regular or maybe it’s your first Etape or even your first time riding in the Alps. Well fear not, you’ll be fine – with a little bit or organisation and a fair amount of training! This year’s Etape route copies what will be stage 20 of this year’s Tour de France which will take place 13 days later on Saturday 23rd July. The Etape, taking place on Sunday the 10th July follows the same gruelling 146km route, leaving the pretty winter ski town of Megève to take in some legendary cols on route to another famous ski and mountain town of Morzine. The route is stunning, and with closed roads you will really be able to profit from the car free alpine ascents and descents. The route goes over a few well known classic cols and some less renowned. After leaving Megève the first col you will climb is the beautiful Col des Aravis topping out at 1487m, the second significant climb of the day is the Col de la Colombiere 1618m, then the Col de la Ramaz 1619m, next the Col de Joux Plane 1691m before enjoying the well earnt ride down to Morzine itself. In terms of logistics you will need to get yourself and your bike over to Megève early on race day, or if you decide to stay in Megève you will be wanting to get back there in the evening after the race. Journey Begins are offering rider transfers / cyclist transfers on the day, to help get you and your bike to where you need to be to make the whole day as easy as possible for you.
